Meet the JFSOD Fam: Mrs. Lauren + Ms. Taylor

Each month, we'll be (re)introducing you to our incredible staff. Take peek into how they got involved in the dance community, how they landed at JFSOD and a few fun facts about them.

Name:

Lauren Roy

Relation to JoAnn Fryrear

Granddaughter, daughter of Mrs. Lynn

What classes do you teach?

Repeater 6/7’s, Intermediate ballet, Advanced Intermediate ballet, Junior Company jazz, Senior Prep jazz, Apprentice jazz, and Senior Company Jazz.

When/how did you start dancing?

I started dancing the month before I turned 3 and haven’t stopped since. Dance has been a personal passion of mine and I enjoy that I can share that with my students.

When/how did you start teaching?

I started team teaching with Ms. Taylor when I was 16.

Favorite thing about JFSOD?

I appreciate the positivity that is brought every day, and the community that is built from that and love.

Favorite hobby outside of dance?

It’s a tie between exercising and reading.

What’s one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?

Despite my active and lively approach to teaching, I’m actually kind of an introvert.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

In the fall, wearing a cozy cardigan, drinking a hot chai with fuzzy socks and a good book.

Dance idol

Sara Mearns from New York City Ballet because she has a very strong dancer and has a lot of power behind her movement, which I admire.

What’s one thing you admire about another JFSOD family member?

Shout out to Mrs. Lynn for being the raddest, coolest, most selfless person ever. She doesn’t get the credit that she deserves.

Name:

Taylor Clements

Relation to JoAnn Fryrear

“Adopted” Granddaughter, “daughter” #3 of Mrs. Lynn

What classes do you teach?

Repeater 7-10’s, Senior Prep Modern, Apprentice Modern, Senior Company Modern, New Teens.

When/how did you start dancing?

I started dancing when I was 3 at a studio in my hometown of Northville, Michigan. When I moved to Kentucky in 4th grade, I bounced around studios and finally landed at JFSOD. I haven’t left since and don’t plan to ever.

When/how did you start teaching?

I started team teaching with Mrs. Lauren when I was 16. The kids that were in our very first kindergarten class are now in our Apprentice classes, and we feel so old (and also thankful to still be teaching them).

Favorite thing about JFSOD?

By far, the best thing about this community IS the community. This studio would not be what it is today without the Fryrear family and the incredible families they attract. Our students are some of the most positive, encouraging and hard working that I’ve seen and I attribute that to the example set every day by Mrs. JoAnn, Mrs. Lynn, Mrs. Beth and Mr. Brent.

Favorite hobby outside of dance?

Hot yoga, cuddling with my husky, cooking and finding new ways to organize/decorate my house.

What’s one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?

When I left for college, I thought I wanted to go live in NYC and become an editor of a fashion magazine.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Listening to the Jonas Brothers on full blast with the windows down, driving the back roads home. It’s okay, you can laugh at me.

Dance idol

I have so many, it’s really hard to choose. My longest dance obsession has been Travis Wall, but I also absolutely love Steven McRae from the Royal Ballet in England, all the Alvin Ailey dancers, Emma Portner, Easton Payne and Teddy Forance. Also Robert Roldan, Mark Kanemura and James Whiteside.

What’s one thing you admire about another JFSOD family member?

I would not be the woman I am today without the influence of Mrs. Lynn, Mrs. JoAnn and Mrs. Beth. They have absolutely played a huge role in who I am and how I approach life. I’m beyond thankful to be able to work with them.
